The first International congress on internet safety was held out in
Thessaloniki on the 21st to 23rd of September. Following the European
Council initiative for the safety on the internet, the congress was
organised by the SafeNethome team, part of the non profit consumer
organisation EKATO.
Important personalities from the area of information technology, the
media and internet safety services as well as academics from
international universities, presented their views on the subject aiming
to inform the public with regards to the internet, its importance, the
possible dangers and its safe use.
Gnet was there with a presentation on "internet games and entertainment
through the use of a PC". Mr Michael Sirakis’, Gnet marketing director,
speech referred to the history of electronic games, the relations
between games and education, their impact on children and the possible
dangers that may arise from their extreme use. In addition he analyzed
research, carried out by Gnet, with regards to the attitudes and
perceptions of gamers.
At the ceremony that followed, Gnet was awarded for its efforts on the
creation of safe store environment, for entertainment via the use of
computer, with guiding principles the quality of the services offered
and the protection of children that visit its stores.
